Wardrobe Essentials For Men

When it comes to grooming issues, men can be slight sluggish. Whether you are going on a date or a significant business meeting, you never get a second chance to make a great first impression. Taking note of the common grooming blunders men make will allow you to dodge dating slumps and help you look and feel your personal best.

These are the fundamentals that every Mack’s wardrobe should contain:

Three pair of jeans. Every body type calls for a specific jean cut. Try some different brands and styles to see which fit you best. There are lots of cool options beyond the traditional blue jeans you wore growing up, in various styles and colors.

Two pair of sweat/jogging pants. Blue and black are good basic colors.

One pull over sweat shirt.

Five button down shirts. One should be a white dress shirt. At least one should be black, a color that always works when you go out at night. Three long sleeve, and two short. Your most comfortable bet is to stick with 100%cotton.

Five vintage or vintage style t-shirts. If you want to try a funkier look, check the vintage stores for tee-shirts from the 1970s and 80s. Some have logos for old TV shows, movies and bands. Since this look has now become fashionable, some stores sell new versions of these retro-looking shirts. They’re a cool conversation piece and give your outfit a unique spin.

Two black tee-shirts.

Two pairs of new-looking sneakers. One can be a pair of athletic sneakers, the type you would wear jogging. Your other pair should be a “fashionable” brand. Companies like Diesel, Steve Madden and Sketchers make sneakers with trendy designs and colors that can be worn at night for a hip-but-casual look.

One pair of flip flops.

One black suit.

One sport coat/blazer.

Two nice silk ties.

Two pair of black dress shoes. Always wear dark socks with them.

As a rule of thumb, it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. It’s never bad thing to be the best-dressed guy in the room, as long as you’re comfortable and don’t look strikingly out of place.

Dress Codes

Sometimes you’ll be invited to an event that has a dress code. Here are some guidelines to follow:

“Casual” pretty much means anything goes. While shorts are OK, as a Mack you shouldn’t settle for the bare minimum of what’s acceptable. You’re better off wearing a nice pair of jeans and either a collared shirt or clean tee-shirt. As far as footwear goes, no flip flops and never any ratty shoes.

“Upscale casual” means wear a suit jacket, but you don’t necessarily need to wear matching slacks. You can wear jeans or slacks of a different color. Wearing a tie is optional but preferred.

“Semi-formal” means a suit and dress shoes. You can opt to not wear a tie and keep your collar open, which can be a good look.

“Black tie optional” means some guests will be wearing tuxedos, but a dark suit is fine.

“Black tie” means a highly formal event where tuxedos are expected. If you don’t own one, you’ll need to rent one. Some guests will show up wearing suits, but they’ll probably look underdressed.

In closing, any guy can look good in thousand-dollar suit. The Mack is the one who can dress down and still look good—whether he’s at the gym, chilling on the weekend, or at his job. That’s having true fashion skills.
